M.W. is an elderly lady, a spinster with no children. She asked me to find out if any of her uncle's children were still alive. The four children had all been born in South Africa. One had moved to the U.S.A. from South Africa and the other three had sailed to the UK with their mother, after their father's death, in 1950. One daughter died in the UK in the 1950s. With no married name for the daughter in America and no middle names for the remaining two children in the Uk it seemed a fairly hopeless case. Using the services of a researcher in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, two very small but important pieces of information were found which suddenly opened up the search. I traced the family of one of the children in Florida and spoke to them. Sadly, none of the three children who might still be alive were alive. However, I had completed the brief I was given and have forged a link between the two sides of the family.
